This video caught m eye because it demonstrated how you can teach a musical concept such as rhythm to children in a simple way where they will be having fun and want to continue learning. In this video the teacher is engaged with her class and is creating a comfortable environment by sitting on the ground with the class as opposed to hovering over top of the kids while she stands and they sit. In addition, the teacher ensures that the class understands the rhythm before playing the game and offers them time to practice the rhythm as a whole group to ensure everyone is comfortable before adding another element and making the activity harder. Also, I believe the teacher did a great job at gearing the lesson towards the age group she was teaching by not using many technical terms or getting the class to practice writing out the rhythm (or notes), she presented this context of a complicated rhythm in a fun way using appropriate and positive language that kids 8-9 would respond to.
Keeping Kids Excited in Music Class
This video caught my eye because this music teacher has taken a big concern in music education (lack of participation) and created her own solution to keeping students interested in music. This music teacher has adapted to new modern teaching techniques to keep kids excited and create a lasting impact with these kids about music. In this interview the teacher talks about the issues in music education today and how in her class she tries to solve these issues by approaching teaching music with new techniques that will motivate every student to participate by teaching to every style of learning, incorporating new modern music, and making music fun. What is important to take away from this video is we must find ways to adapt to the world around creating an enticing learning environment where kids will be excited to learn and participate. This clip offers an example of good teaching because the teacher has adapted her classroom to fit the needs of the students instead of just teaching right out of the curriculum book, she has taken the time to get to know her students and what they like and used it to her advantage in the class room that ultimately benefits the students learning.
